Who doesn’t like a little social lubricant before talking to a cute guy or girl on a night out? It helps you feel less self-conscious, more attractive and more attracted to the cutie you’ve set your sights on. But have a few too many and the night can pretty easily take a turn for the worse.
Even if you manage to get a lucky lover home to bed, all those shots and drinks can come back to haunt you, leaving you hunched over a stranger’s toilet or completely disappointed in the bedroom. Here are a few ways sex and alcohol don’t mix and why, keep them in mind next time you’re out on the prowl!
This is half the reason we like to drink in the first place, but inhibitions are also what keep you from making decisions you might regret. Don’t go from working it on the dance floor to catching an infection from a stranger in the ladies’ room!
Most of the time we can tell when we’re doing something out of character, but if you can’t tell ask your friends to keep tabs on you. Trust me you’ll thank them the next morning, even if you’re mad at them for acting like mom and dad at the club.
Sick and sleepy
Is there anything less sexy than throwing up? How about throwing up in someone else’s bed? You don’t want to do that and they certainly don’t want you to do that either. Eating before you go out drinking will help soak up some of the alcohol, but also means more to throw up when and if that happens.
Being drunk also makes most people sleepy, and I’m sure many of you have fallen asleep before or during a fool-around session before. This can be especially concerning if you don’t know the person that well, and may not know their intentions. Stay safe! Your best bet is just not to get drunk to the point of sickness or falling asleep, you’ll save yourself a lot of embarrassment and laundry.
Harder to get hard, or wet
Alcohol lowers your blood pressure and dehydrates your body. For guys that can mean a really difficult time getting or maintaining an erection, and for girls that can mean no natural lubrication is produced by their vagina.
Not to mention the reduced sensitivity experienced by both guys and girls. That can make it very difficult to actually have an orgasm, especially for women who already have a hard time reaching climax. A little alcohol can get you in the mood, but too much can make it tough to have or enjoy sex at all.
A bit of advice
You don’t have to avoid alcohol all together, the recommended nightly limit for girls is one drink and for guys it’s two. If you’re going to drink, drink slowly, just to take the edge off. You don’t have to get drunk to be funny or interesting, and remember everyone else feels just as nervous! Even if they don’t seem like it.
If you have more than a drink or two, try drinking a water in between – that way you won’t get completely wasted or dehydrated, and you’re less likely to feel sick. Drink more water when you get home too, so that you won’t feel hung over in the morning.
Trust me, you’ll thank yourself. Not only will you enjoy sex more, but you’ll actually remember it! And you’re less likely to make any regrettable decisions (like not using a condom!) or have any embarrassing incidents.
