Thanksgiving is here again and I’m sure all of you are excited to fill your bellies to bursting. Which got me thinking about how food plays into people’s sex lives – specifically “aphrodisiacs” which are foods that are thought to boost sexual arousal.
There are probably a few that come to mind immediately, but many of them are just myths. Keep a few of the following ones in mind and see if you can incorporate them in your Thanksgiving cooking this year, or next! But be careful not to get so stuffed that there’s no room for a little sexy dessert afterward.
A lot of the things we used to think were aphrodisiacs were actually just foods that reminded people of sex, or only seemed related to it. People figured that hot and spicy foods created passion, and cold and moist foods put a damper on it. And other foods were just shaped like sex organs in some way, so people thought they would have a positive effect on sex.
The main one most people think of is oysters – but it turns out they have pretty much no effect on sexual arousal. The same goes for chocolate, honey, and lots of other foods (even though they might be fun to drizzle on your partner and then lick clean).
The Real Deals
The foods that studies have shown to turn up the heat in the bedroom are a little more natural and healthy than honey and chocolate. Things like ginseng, gingko biloba, and a root plant called “maca” have had a positive effect on erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems, though not as consistently as more traditional therapies and treatments.
It might be kind of hard to work any of those into a Thanksgiving dinner, but you can find cool ways to include them in other meals, especially if you’ve been finding yourself sexually frustrated lately. A couple of them even come in pill form – but you should talk to your doctor before deciding to take any of them consistently.
Have a Sexy Thanksgiving
I hope all of you travel safely and enjoy your time with your loved ones! Use any free time you find yourself with to relax and de-stress. If your house isn’t too full or if you’re going to somebody else’s, don’t forget to have a little sexy dessert with your partner, or even just by yourself!
